Within the framework of the project Images of Israel and antisemitism in German society, didactic approaches have been developed to support teachers in systematically raising awareness of cultural expressions of antisemitism in pop culture and, in addition, in discussing nuanced portrayals of the relationship between Israel and Palestine.
Tonight’s event outlines selected examples of these new approaches and discusses key challenges currently facing teachers, political actors and academic communities.
The debate will be led by:
- Professor Philipp Lenhard (Chair of Jewish History and Culture, LMU)
- Dr. Michael Mayer (Akademie für Politische Bildung [Academy of Political Education], Tutzing)
- Bettina Mehić (teacher at the Max-Josef-Stift Gymnasium)
- Dr. Ludwig Spaenle (Bavarian State Government Commissioner for Jewish Life, Against Antisemitism, for Remembrance Work and for Historic Legacy)
Prior registration is required. For more information, please visit the website of LMU’s Department of Jewish History and Culture.
